Staples sets entry into market

Staples Inc. plans to enter the Reno market with two office supplies stores that will open early next year one in central Reno at Shoppers

Square and the other in northwest Reno at Canyon Center.

The stores in the newly constructed projects will measure 18,000 and 20,390 square feet, respectively, says Mike Black, a Staples' spokesman. Each store will employ about 30.

The company currently has stores in Douglas County at the south edge of Carson City, its first location in Nevada, and at South Lake Tahoe.

Headquartered at Framingham, Mass., Staples operates more than 1,700 stores in the United States and Canada.

Although it faces competitors ranging from big-box office retailers to

quick-print shops, Staples' strategy emphasizes ease of shopping and competitive pricing, says Black.

The Reno market looked attractive, he said, because, "We look for areas with a strong business community and a high traffic location."
