US Ordnance finishes new plant

US Ordnance, a Reno-based manufacturer of machine guns, will begin moving into a new 65,000-square-foot facility in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center on Sept. 3 and begin manufacturing operations on Sept. 8

The company makes the M-60 7.623 caliber machine gun for the U.S. government and is moving from its facility on Valley Road. It will employ 45 to 65 at the new facility.

Curtis and Mary Debord launched US Ordnance in 2000 when they began producing machine guns under a licensing agreement with General Dynamic.

The Savage Corp. installed a sound-insulated firing range inside the new building so US Ordnance can test each of the newly manufactured weapons.

The Storey County permit for the building requires 24-hour security and an 8-foot security fence topped with serpentine wire.
