Wind project moves ahead

After a year of planning and negotiation, NV Energy and Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. said they're moving forward with their plan to develop a 200-megawatt wind-energy project along the Nevada-Idaho border about five miles west of Jackpot.

The China Mountain project, which might be expanded to 425 megawatts, would initially involve 80 to 100 large wind turbines. NV Energy and RES, a unit of Britain's Sir Robert McAlpine Enterprises Ltd, are equal partners.

Environmental studies of the site are expected to be completed by late 2010, NV Energy executives said.
