Clay mine plan under study

Calico LLC, a Fallon company, is seeking approval from the federal Bureau of Land Management to expand a clay pit 10 miles northwest of Winnemucca.

Over the next 20 years, the company plans remove about 22,000 cubic yards of clay from the property, which last was mined in the early 1980s through the early 1990s.
