Sierra Pacific seeks electric, gas decreases

Sierra Pacific Power Co. said its annual electric and natural gas filings with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada calls for an overall 4.6 percent decrease in electric rates for northern Nevada customers and an overall 5.5 percent decrease in natural gas rates for Reno-Sparks customers.

If the Public Utilities Commission approves the changes, they will become effective Oct. 1.

The filings reflect declines in natural gas and purchased electricity costs over the past year, said Mary Simmons, vice president of external affairs for Sierra Pacific Power Company.
