Defense contractor Heetronix to expand operations in Reno

Heetronix, a Reno-based company specializing in radiation and temperature sensors and controls for military and government use, is expanding its operations at 725 Trademark Drive.

Heetronix plans to introduce three products in the second and third quarters of this year and another in mid-2009, it said in an application to the Nevada Commission on Economic Development for development incentives. The commission approved the incentives last week.

The company has a contract with the U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center for its first product, a radiation-sensing system for laser calibration to be delivered in April.

Additional products include a surface-mount control system built around Heetronix' self-monitoring heaters, and an ultra-wide range temperature probe based on its proprietary heat sensors.

To facilitate development and manufacturing, Heetronix will move from a small research and development group to a full-scale operation by adding a sales staff, human resources department, skilled technical personnel to assist with product development and to work manufacturing lines, and manufacturing equipment.

The company expects to add six new jobs with average wages of $18.72 an hour.
