Entries set record in business plan contest

A record number of business plans have been submitted for the 2008 Donald W. Reynolds Governor's Cup Business Plan Competition, Nevada's Center for Entrepren-eurship and Technology said last week.

Forty-eight teams including 30 from the University of Nevada, Reno are participating in the competition.

Students from Nevada's universities and colleges team up and compete for nearly $110,000 in cash awards.

Eight entries come from Truckee Meadows Community College including one from the TMCC high school and two entries come from Sierra Nevada College.

Dave Archer, chief executive officer of Nevada's Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology, said students from a wide range of academic disciplines are participating.

In addition to the students in business and engineering disciplines who have regularly participated, represented majors this year include journalism, biology, biochemistry, history, hotel management and fine arts.

The teams include 146 students, up from 109 last year.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony in Henderson on April 25.
