Work set to begin on multi-family project

Fairbanks Construction will break ground Feb. 1 on a seven-unit apartment development at 535 E. 7th St. in Reno, owner Lane Fairbanks said.

Construction is expected to take five months on the $1.3 million project near Governor's Bowl Park. The seven units include one triplex and two duplexes.

Fairbanks said the project is the first construction on new development he's had in quite some time.

"This is a huge project for me. It starts off 2009 in the right direction," he said. "I have stayed pretty busy with some small projects here and there, some remodels and renovations, but I had no new builds last year."

Fairbanks won the contract from developer John Cimino LLC.

Although Fairbanks has yet to award subcontracts, he said he already has all the bids he needs.
