Economic recruiter makes a beer run

Nevada Business Connections made a beer run to Oregon last week.

The privately funded economic development group headquartered in Carson City said it targeted microbreweries during a recruitment visit to the Portland area.

"With an Oregon legislative proposal of increasing beer taxes from $2 a barrel to $52 a barrel, (a 1,900 percent increase), we plan to call on a few of the 87 microbreweries in the Portland area," said Kris Holt, executive director of Nevada Business Connections.

Holt said the group also had scheduled meetings with four manufacturers as well as the economic development team of Portland Power Co.

The companies were encouraged to visit northern Nevada and think about the region as a site for future operations.

The Oregon recruiting trip comes on the heels of four California recruitment trips conducted by Nevada Business Connections in the past 10 months.
