The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority's Stead Airport remediation project has been recognized as the best environmental achievement in 2009 among all airports in North America by the Airports Council International.
The project involves containment and removal of Trichloroethene from soil and groundwater that has spread beneath a 115-acre portion of the airport.
