In his own words: Jared A. Krupa from K2 Engineering

Northern Nevada Business Weekly: Introduce us to K2 Engineering.

Jared Krupa: K2 Engineering employs eight people and is a limited liability corporation established by my partner, Brandt Kennedy, and me back in 2005. We specialize in providing our clients with structural engineering, civil/site engineering, and CAD drafting for both residential and commercial projects. We say K2 Engineering is the fast track to building permits.

NNBW: What role do you play in the company?

Krupa: I am responsible for customer service, quality control, and project management.

NNBW: What kind of boss are you?

Krupa: I'm pretty relaxed. I work hard so I can play hard. I expect the same from those I work with.

NNBW: How did you get into this profession?

Krupa: I'm a problem solver and I love construction. Engineering just seemed to fit.

NNBW: What do you enjoy about it?

Krupa: I enjoy the finished product. Buildings are the ultimate monument to a job well done.

NNBW: What do you find annoying about it?

Krupa: Sometimes the bureaucracy of obtaining permits becomes a little frustrating. But in the end, it's really not that bad.

NNBW: What are some of the challenges that face your profession in the next few years?

Krupa: New codes are always fun and staying up to date with all the latest technology in construction keeps my career life interesting.

NNBW: What effect has the changing economic environment had on your company?

Krupa: The new economy just means we've had to adapt a little to better accommodate our client's changing needs. New construction with residential homes and commercial buildings used to be the norm a couple of years ago. Now we are seeing more decks, additions, remodels, and improvements to existing buildings.

NNBW: If you could have had any other profession what would it have been? Why wasn't it your first choice?

Krupa: I probably would have been a college professor because I love teaching motivated minds. It wasn't my first choice because I chose engineering early on and never looked back.

NNBW: How do you spend your time away from the office? Why are these activities important to you?

Krupa: I love to spend time with my family and I'm an avid outdoorsman. When I'm not working, you'll find me camping/skiing at the lake, riding my dirt bike in the desert, or traveling with my wife to remote beach destinations.

NNBW: If you could have a mulligan on your career, what would you do differently the next time around?

Krupa: I would take more time off.

NNBW: What's the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Krupa: "Never give up!"

NNBW: What is the one thing you most want people to remember about you?

Krupa: How much I love my kids.

NNBW: Any final thoughts?

Krupa: Yes. "Let him who would enjoy a good future waste none of his present." Roger Babson
