Owners of BBQ, deli franchise set deliberate expansion plan

The Reno company that plans development of a franchised barbecue and delicatessen locations in northern Nevada and Boise is in no hurry to establish new outposts.

Instead, the president of 2Brothers Enterprises LLC says the company first wants to fine-tune operation of its initial store in Reno.

2Brothers Enterprises LLC purchased the Kinder's Meats-Deli-BBQ location at Moana Lane and Warren Way in Reno this summer.

The company owned by brothers Brian and Denis Smith also entered a licensing agreement with JR Kinder's Enterprises Inc. of Walnut Creek, Calif., that allows 2Brothers Enterprises to open Kinder's locations elsewhere in northern Nevada as well as the Boise area.

Brian K. Smith, president of 2Brothers, said the company expects to open its first franchised location within about a year. Carson City or Incline Village are likely locations, he said.

Decisions will depend on the availability of well-positioned real estate to serve specific markets, he said.

Kinder's locations sell meats, deli meat, sandwiches and salads. Each store employs about a dozen workers.

Before purchasing the Reno store and the franchise rights, Brian Smith was executive vice president and general manager of the Carson City Nugget.

Denis Smith, who serves as the company's vice president of marketing and sales, previously was president of Vend Music in Houston, Texas.

JR Kinder's Enterprises Inc. operates 14 company-owned and franchised locations in California and operates concessions for the Oakland A's, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers.

In a filing with the Federal Trade Commission, JR Kinder's has estimated that costs of opening one of its locations range from $261,000 to $637,000.
