Downtown project's retail leased

A high-profile office and retail project in downtown Reno has seen a flurry of leasing activity.

The 17,000-square-building at 170 State Street that's just south of the Pioneer Theater was completed in the second quarter of 2009, during some of the darkest days of the recession.

MTK Limited, the Reno company that developed the building, said it recently inked a lease for Fuego LLC for a 2,300-square-foot restaurant. The business is owned by Ron McCarty, who also owns Ceol, a downtown-area pub.

Also leasing space in the building was Fairly Grounded Coffee & Tea, which will open a 1,300-square-foot location. This will be a second location for the company, which also operates at 3366 Lakeside Court in Reno.

Both Fairly Grounded and Fuego are scheduled to be open in August.

They join La Famiglia Ristorante, which opened last winter.

Chris Waizmann of CB Richard Ellis represented MTK Limited in the lease negotiations.

Mike Perkins of MTK Limited said the new leases fully occupy the first-floor retail space in the building, and the company is working with CB Richard Ellis to find tenants for 10,000 square feet of office space on the building's second floor.
