Altair wins contract to supply bus batteries

Altair Nanotechnologies Inc. of Reno said last week it signed a $4.6 million contract to provide batteries to Proterra Inc. for use in all-electric and hybrid-electric buses.

This marks the third time that Proterra, headquartered in Greenville, S.C., has ordered batteries from Altair during the past year.

Altair says it expects more orders from Proterra to follow. Batteries modules in the current order will be delivered through June 2011.

The batteries can be recharged in 10 minutes, says publicly held Altair.
