Energy-efficient Burger King

Twelve Burger King locations owned by Jill Lillaney completed energy efficiency improvements that reduced their annual electricity usage by 995,959 kilowatt hours since 2008.

Lillaney, who owns Burger King locations in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Gardnerville, Fernley and Winnemucca, received $48,900 in incentives from Sure Bet, a NV Energy program that encourages energy efficiency.

Along with installation of energy-efficient lighting, the restaurant operator replaced steam tables for warming sandwich buns with toasters modified for energy efficiency; modified the heat ventilation from the grill to reduce air conditioning costs and installed occupancy sensors to automatically switch lights on and off in restrooms.
