VA jobs key to Gardnerville builder

BR Construction of Gardnerville continues to thrive in a down construction market by pursuing opportunities through the Department of Veteran's Affairs.

Earlier this year, company owner Bud Rinasz opened a regional office in New York, and a great deal of the company's work has come from renovation projects at eastern Veteran's Affairs hospitals.

The veteran-owned, service-disabled construction company last week won another significant contract $5.52 million to upgrade facilities at Batavia Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Batavia, N.Y.

BR Construction will upgrade boilers and building automation and the steam distribution system at the site. Rinasz says the design phase of the project will begin in the next couple of weeks, with construction expected to begin early next year.

The Gardnerville company's first job at a VA hospital was in Bath, New York, and Rinasz is several months ahead of schedule with just a few weeks of work left.

BR Construction also is working at a VA Hospital in Buffalo, replacing parts of the hospital's steam-generated HVAC system. The $746,000 contract was awarded June 29, and Rinasz expects to finish the job in early December.

Much of the work has come via contracts awarded to companies owned by service- disabled veterans.

"We have a bunch of vets working for us, and it is keeping those guys busy too," Rinasz says. "We try to hire if at all possible veteran-owned corporations as our subcontractors, too."
