130 YEARS AGO

During the Legislative session Mr. Hark, of the Mint, fixed up a very ingenious string and bell affair to detect the presence of a stranger in his hen roost. The night before last Mr. Hark was aroused from a profound slumber and taking his trusty six-shooter took a shot over the fence at the robber's head and killed a black tom cat. He learned the bell had been rung by some mischievous young ladies.

100 YEARS AGO

A visit to Reno yesterday by printers and others resulted in the loss of several spring bonnets. Billy Kearns lost his before he got to Washoe City. Leslie Smaill shed his near Franktown, while Billy Harrington let his go near the tunnel.

70 YEARS AGO

The fastening of one of the gasoline pumps at Stanley Peyton's service station was broken last night and an undermined amount of gasoline was removed from the tank.

50 YEARS AGO

The Carson City police department and Orsmby Sheriff's Office today began a crackdown on all motorists. In warning auto drivers, Sheriff Howard Hoffman said the department would impede on reckless driving, excessive speed, loud pipes and running stop signs.

20 YEARS AGO

Underground nuclear tests have been delayed because winds were blowing toward Las Vegas, 103 miles away.
