130 YEARS AGO

During the past few days California strawberries have been forcing their way into the Nevada market. Of course every woman and child wants a few boxes. Those offered are somewhat better than last year. They are firmer, as a rule and only rotten at one end. Some are green through, and some are water-soaked. Down in San Francisco there is an association of strawberry dealers who have sworn a solemn oath not to let a decent strawberry get into Nevada before May.

100 YEARS AGO

Up to a late hour this afternoon Phillips, the in-and-out prisoner of Lyon County, had failed to report to the constabulary. Dick Randall opens the door several times a day hoping he will drift through the keyhole the way he went out.

70 YEARS AGO

Thirty-two members of the Carson City Boy Scout troops left Carson this forenoon in a forest service canvas truck for Clear Creek where they are to plant several hundred Jeffrey pine trees.

Everett Randall was named president of Kit Carson Toastmasters last week, succeeding Charles Moran.

Actress Natalie Schafer, known to generations as the stranded millionaire's wife Lovey, died of Cancer today.

Dorothy Todd announces her retirement from the Carson City School District after 31 years.
