Easter in the East and West

This year, both the Western and Eastern Christians celebrate Easter today.

Catholic and Protestant churches in the West celebrate Easter on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox.

Sort of. The "full moon" is actually the paschal moon - the fixed date of March 21 - and rarely corresponds to the astronomical full moon.

The Eastern Orthodox church's calendar is based on the Julian calendar in which March 21 is April 3, and the astronomical full moon as seen in Jerusalem.
