Rep. Heck addresses Nevada Legislature

U.S. Rep. Joe Heck blames what he calls a badly broken federal government for the recession that has strangled Nevada's economy.

In an address to a joint session of the Nevada Legislature on Monday, Heck said he will continue to fight for spending cuts in Congress, and said politicians from both sides of the aisle are guilty of overspending and failing to prioritize.

But he said he will advocate for programs that help people and he is not afraid to buck his party.

A freshman congressman, Heck in November defeated Democrat Dina Titus in the race for Nevada's 3rd Congressional District seat.

A former state senator and emergency room physician, Heck is being targeted by national Democrats, who want to reclaim the seat in 2012.
