Fernley man jailed after allegedly shooting boy

A Fernley man remained in custody Tuesday after he accidentally shot a 15-year-old boy in the face Sunday, according to police.

Douglas Holloway, 25, was booked into the Lyon County Jail on suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon and child abuse.

According to a press release, a man called 911 about 5:30 p.m. Sunday to report that his friend had been shot in the face. When deputies arrived at the home in the 400 block of Willow Way in Fernley, the 15-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, was alert and talking.

He was treated by paramedics and then taken to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released, said Lyon County sheriff's Detective Sgt. Cherie Rye.

Deputies who spoke with Holloway said he admitted shooting the boy.

"He stated that it was an accident and he was unaware the gun was loaded," the release states.

Officials declined to release further details.

Holloway is being held on $105,000 bail. He will appear in court Tuesday.
