Gold Hill shines this month

The Gold Hill Hotel is on an entertainment roll this month with the Gold Hill Theater Troupe production of "The Hanging of Gladys McGraw" plus two musical performances this weekend of "Those Were the Days - Jazz At Its Best."

Jazz At Its Best features the Blue Jasmine group recreating the classic jazz of the 1930s, '40, and '50s, plus a tribute to Rosemary Clooney. Performances are 7-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Great Room of the Gold Hill Hotel.

The Blue Jasmine group features local jazz legends Linda Merrell (vocals), Peter Supersano (piano), Rocky Taterelli (sax) and Phil Jerome (bass and trombone). The show also adds the talents of Perry Marshall Arnn, Suzanne Crawford, and John Schafer.

The gourmet dinner and show option are $45 per person plus tip and tax; or $15 for the show only. Seating is limited and by reservation only.

"The Hanging of Gladys McGraw," playing at 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 18, is a dramatic and sometimes funny play, written and directed by Karen Wright, and loosely based on actual events.

Set in the 1870s, "The Hanging" takes place in the wild mining town of Virginia City where a woman of naughty ways tries to change her profession. But the dastardly villain accosts her in the V&T train station, insisting she show him her wares. While defending herself from his attack, she kills him dead with a hatpin.

Tickets for the show only are $10. Dinner and play package is $25, with dinner served from 5-7 p.m. Call for reservations.

The Historic Gold Hill Hotel is located at 1540 Main St., Gold Hill, 1 mile south of Virginia City on Hwy. 342.
