The Volunteer Connection

This continues RSVP's regular Sunday column about outstanding volunteer opportunities. Be sure to look it over and see what you would like to do to put some fun in your life.

• Ormsby Association for Retarded Citizens needs volunteers to sort, hang and organize clothing for its Thrift Store. This is its big source of funds.

• Western Nevada College needs ushers for Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company's November production. Will receive free refreshments, a show souvenir, and allowed to watch performances free of charge.

• RSVP needs Telephone Tree volunteers to call senior(s) at least once a week to see how they are doing and to bring companionship over the phone.

• The Children's Museum needs docents from now to Aug. 19 to oversee the LEGO exhibit.

• RSVP needs "home companion" volunteers to help seniors with basic needs and services such as visiting, reading, helping organize files and shopping for groceries. A couple of hours a week means so much to seniors.

• Like to see great shows for free? The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department is training volunteers to serve as light and sound technicians for its Community Center Theater productions. They need an usher coordinator to keep the ushers coordinated. This is exciting work and you get to see all the great shows in the theater. Also looking for volunteers for daytime building monitors, custodians and maintenance.

We have some exciting new volunteer positions coming up; keep checking back.

All volunteers receive orientation and training. Also, volunteers can receive out-of-pocket expenses and are covered by several insurances. For details call Carol, 775-687-4680 x 6. Do not directly contact the agencies listed above.
