Obituary: Edith H. Coffey

Edith was born Nov. 1, 1917 in Roseburg, OR to Clyde and Lorraine Hatfield. She graduated from Turlock Union High School in 1936 and then attended and graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts with

a degree in Art Education in 1941. During that time she met and married Charles R. Coffey. They made their home in the San Francisco bay area until moving to Carson City in 1980.

Although she spent most of her life as a homemaker, Edith, an independent and spirited woman, used her artistic and creative talents in all aspects of her everyday life. Her many interests included sewing, upholstery, cooking, gardening, and painting; she was also an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers. In recent years she took up tole painting of wooden duck decoys and other birds. Anyone who received one of her creations considered themselves fortunate.

Edith is survived by her son, Bruce Coffey (Joanne) of Newman, CA; daughter Barbara Fuge (Tom) of Grover Beach, CA; twin sister Ethel Quint of Grants Pass, OR, five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her wishes there will be no service. Cremation will be under the direction of FitzHenry's Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
