130 YEARS AGO

Last night a man who was hanging about Tommy Douglas' Saloon in Eureka was arrested on suspicion of being the notorious Tom Lawton, one of the accomplices of the dastardly murder of Tullis near Sacramento in the summer of 1878. Since that time Lawton, one of three that escaped hanging has been at large.

100 YEARS AGO

Last evening many of the businessmen and property holders attended a lecture by Mr. Fagan, who explained the manufacture of electric light bulbs. It was explained that the modern Mazda light is superior in every sense to that of the carbon light.

70 YEARS AGO

Archie Pozzi, local Ford dealer, claims he was the victim of sabotage yesterday while on a trip ferrying a car from San Francisco to Carson that became available because of the war started by Japan and destined for Honolulu. A tire went flat and when he looked at the tire, discovered a piece of tin lodged between the tire and rim, which cut through the tube. Pozzie feels certain the tin was in there by design.

50 YEARS AGO

Governor Grant Sawyer has submitted a formal proposal to the National Park Service to make Fort Churchill a registered historic landmark.

20 YEARS AGO

Activity time at Loise Needham's Head Start pre-school program is performed about 20 decibels below the threshold of pain. The program is federally-funded and started Sept. 30.

10 YEARS AGO

A Tuesday morning fire destroyed much of the 76-room Carson Valley Motor Lodge. The fire started in an attic and spread to adjoining rooms.
