Sponsors made RSVP volunteer Christmas party possible

The Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program would like to extend a special thank you to the generous sponsors who made the Dec. 8 RSVP volunteer Christmas party possible. Without their help, there would have been no party because of program cuts.

More than 400 volunteers and their guests were treated to a wonderful lunch courtesy of our gracious sponsors, the Carson Nugget, AT&T Nevada, NV Energy, Wells Fargo Bank and Southwest Gas.

The luncheon honored volunteers who provided more than 140,000 hours of service to the community in 2011 by volunteering at many locations, in addition to helping our low-income, homebound senior population.

The following individuals and local businesses donated raffle prizes to the event: Adele's Restaurant & Lounge, A Pawsitive Image Grooming, Art Glass Creations, AT&T Nevada, Atlantis Hotel & Casino, Bellissimo, Benson's Feed, Big O Tires, Bodine's, Butler Meats Co., Cactus Jack's Casino, Capitol Automotive, Carol's Grooming Shop, Carson City Florist and Carson City Toyota Scion.

Other donors were Carson Plaza Retirement Residence, Charley's Grilled Subs, Chi Therapeutic Massage, Chili's, Denny's, JC Penny's Distinctive Style Salon, Domino's Pizza, Eagle Valley Golf, El Charro Avitia, Empire Ranch Golf Course, Essential Kneads Massage, Fourth Ward School, Garibaldi's Restorante, Geeks of Nevada, Gold Dust West, Grandma Hattie's Family Restaurant and Interim HomeStyle Services.

Contributions also were made by Jimmy's G's Cigar Bar, Joanie's Creekside Deli, Philips Lifeline, Make It Yours! Clay and Glassworks, Ming's Chinese Restaurant, Mmmmm Yogurt, National's Cafe, Nevada State Museum, Paradise Cove Cafe/Mom & Pops Diner, Pizza Factory, Port of Subs, Prestige Car Wash, Red's Old 395 Grill, San Marcos Grill, Sharon Inman Jewelry and Sierra Rose Floral & Gifts.

Also involved were Silver Oak Golf Course, SlotWorld Casino, Sushi Delight, The Basil Restaurant, The Purple Avocado, Tires Plus Total Car Care, Tito's Restaurant, Vitamin Villa Health Food Store, and Walmart Supercenters in Carson City and north Douglas County.

RSVP advocates for seniors at all levels of government for services that keep them in their own homes as long as possible and out of costly institutions.

Thank you to Kevin Ray,

Carson Mall for donating space

Food For Thought wishes to extend a very big thank you to Kevin Ray and the Carson Mall.

They donated space and food for our Ladies Night Out event on Dec 6. They allowed us to make enough money to feed hungry kids in our community for three weeks.

Thanks also to everyone who attended our fun evening.
