Senator Square: Students winding down for break

With finals upon us and the glimpse of a light at the end of this semester tunnel, many in our building are anxious for the winter break. Students are working hard to pass those tests and teachers are working even harder to make sure all the i's have been dotted and t's have been crossed. Last week was tough and it isn't necessarily because of school exams.

We are faced with daily "tests" and challenges. Besides the events at school, life outside of school continues to happen all around us.

A sad reminder of how precious life is, the coming together of a staff for those we care about, putting our hearts and wallets out there to benefit those less fortunate than us ... this is what life is about.

School is part of a process, and in this process we teach our students more than about a subject, like chemistry or mathematics. I continue to be humbled by the students and staff of CHS who give so generously of themselves to make lives for those around them better.

This past week has provided many lessons about life that none of us is soon to forget. Good luck to our students this week on their final exams.

CHS TALENT SHOW

The photo class at CHS is gearing up for the annual CHS Talent Show. In January, we will have auditions, and the show will be on Feb. 15.

We are hoping the students will use the Christmas break to "get their acts together" and have some fun auditions in January. We are always looking for the best in talent for singing, dancing, music, comedy, etc.

At the same time, we love to find fun and creative acts that are well thought out and a lot of fun. We hope the community will mark the date of the show and attend what is always a remarkable show of the talent our youth amaze us with.

ATTENTION, PARENTS OF COLLEGE-BOUND SENIORS

CONSTRUCTION BEGINS

Next week, the small gym renovation will start. This will be a restricted area throughout the rest of this school year.

With the exception of the operations and construction crew, there will be no parking in the back of the school.

Nutrition personnel have been assigned new parking spots. Teachers and coaches are not to park in the back of the school during school hours.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

CHS is proud to spotlight senior Charles Larkin.

He maintains

a weighted grade-point average of 4.23. Charles's plans include attending the University of Nevada, Reno, and then going on to veterinary school.

His extra activities include speech and debate, soccer and working at Galaxy Fandango.

Thank you, Charles, for your contributions to Carson High School and we wish you well after graduation.

STAFF FACT

Answer to last week's fact is Joe Thornburg. Joe is an English teacher at CHS and just recently completed his 10th marathon.

New fact: This staff person under went a successful heart transplant in August. She has been staying in Utah at the University hospital recovering each day and the doctors have said she may be able to come home as soon as February of this coming year!
