Man treated after standoff

A suicidal man holding a knife to his throat kept police at bay for about an hour Wednesday at an apartment complex on Roop Street.

Carson City Sheriff's Capt. Clay Wall said officers were called out at noon to 655 S. Roop St. after the 45-year-old man threatened suicide.

While holding a knife to his own throat, the man refused to exit his apartment or drop his weapon, said Wall.

As the incident progressed officers noted the man's resolve was weakening, and they shot him with a bean bag round, Wall said. The man was able to slice his throat as he tried to get away, said Wall, but officers tasered him and he was cuffed.

He was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center with a severe gash to his throat and a self-inflicted stab wound to his chest. He is expected to survive his injuries.

Wall said the man was despondent over family

matters.
