A two-time convicted sex offender who blamed an oversight for his failure to register was sent to prison Tuesday.

Carson City District Court Judge Jim Wilson sentenced Harry Dodd Jim, 68, to 16-40 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender and failing to obey laws regarding sex offenders.

Jim was arrested in November for probation violation for hanging out around Mills Park. While out on bail he was arrested a second time.

In court Tuesday, his attorney Marcie Flygare explained the second charge was a mistake. Jim had registered his address with the Carson City Sheriff's Office, but when he asked his apartment manager for the address, he was told 505 S. Roop St. While that address was correct for the manager's office, Jim's apartment was actually at 605 N. Roop St., Flygare said.

"I did have the correct address. I was brand new in the area," said Jim. "I wasn't trying to hide anything or be dishonest about anything."

Deputy District Attorney Shelly Small noted Jim has two prior felonies - attempted sexual assault in 2000 out of Washoe County and a federal charge of sexual abuse from 1993 - and 13 misdemeanor charges. She said he's been to jail 11 times and served time in Nevada prison on the 2000 charge.

Also before Wilson on Tuesday:

• Joshua Lee Ezekiel, 26, pleaded guilty to forgery. He faces up to five years in prison when sentenced April 4.

• Beau R. Glave, 23, pleaded guilty to felony domestic battery with choking and conspiracy to commit contempt of court. Glave allegedly tried to persuade the victim of the domestic battery to change her story and to have her persuade others to do the same. He will be sentenced March 22.

• Jordan Burkhart, 21, pleaded guilty to dissuading a witness from testifying. He faces up to four years in prison when sentenced on April 12.

Burkhart allegedly drove a woman to a market where she attempted to cash a fraudulent check. When the clerk caught on, the woman fled to the vehicle and told Burkhart to drive away. The store owner ran outside and was able to pull the front license plate off the vehicle, according court documents. Burkhart allegedly threatened the clerk by saying, "I'm coming back to get you," before driving away.
