Obituary: Kamala Gail Richards Schenzel FitzHenry "Kay"

Kamala Gail Richards Schenzel FitzHenry, better known as "Kay" to her friends, died peacefully in her home on Feb. 9, 2011. She is survived by her two sons, Jeremiah and Jonas; her daughter, Lissell; grandson Drew Jr.; husband, Lester; father Jack; and brother Kyle. She was preceded in death by her mother Laura and brother Jay.

A gathering of friends and family will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at FitzHenry's Funeral Home in Carson City. Everyone is invited to attend.

Kay enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was gardening or reading a mystery novel. She also loved spending time with her cats, who she had rescued a few years earlier during a winter snow storm when they were taking refuge under a wood pile in her backyard. One of her favorite pastimes was going to the mountains and taking the dogs hiking with her husband and, when her children were younger, going camping with them in the mountains.

Recently, Kay had done some traveling with her father, going as far north as South Dakota to visit Deadwood and Mt. Rushmore and far south to see Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico.

Kay mastered many talents; one of the most beloved by her family was her ability to cook. She brought her family together over a meal for dinner every night, regardless of how busy their lives were, no matter what sporting event was going on or what excuse her children came up with. It's a great talent she has passed on to her daughter and her family.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the SPCA.
