130 YEARS AGO

Taken from "The Indians and Their Wars in Nevada" by Frank T. Gilbert, from the Nevada Appeal: In December of 1880, the writer visited the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation to get the Pah-Ute version of their troubles with the whites in 1860. Through an interpreter, the Indians recounted in part what follows over the course of three days. (continued on Tuesday).

Governor Oddie is offering a $5,000 reward for the capture of the murderer(s) of four shipmen who were found in a cave in northern Washoe County. Rustlers were to blame for the incident claimed to be the worst since the Modoc lynching.

A total of $451.83 has been raised from the President's Birthday Ball for Ormsby county, John L. Savage and F. S. Shannon announced today. Funds will be used to battle infantile paralysis.

A two-car crash in Fallon brings the death toll for 1961 to 22 in Nevada.

After a series of temblors hit Carson City in January, emergency planners put in overtime to mitigate problems in a worse-case scenario.

The city is offering a $500 first place prize for the design of an information kiosk. The kiosks are to be used as an information portal for tourists.
