130 YEARS AGO

From Frank T. Gilbert (continued from Thursday): The council convened recounting the wrongs done to his band and demanding war. Nu-Ma-Ga, looking like the ghost of a dead Indian, walked into the circle and talked eloquently and at length: "I ask you to pause and reflect. The white man are like stars over your heads. You have wrongs, great wrongs that rise like the mountains before you; but can you, from those mountaintops, reach those stars?" (Continued on Saturday)

100 YEARS AGO

Close to midnight last night fire bells rang to find the home of District Attorney Sanford being consumed by fire. The boys in the first cart arrived to find they didn't have enough hose to reach the it and had to make a second trip.

70 YEARS AGO

Senator Walter Cox, editor-publisher of the Mason Valley News of Yerington, is elected president of the Nevada State Press Association.

50 YEARS AGO

Eric R. Chronkhite has been selected as park and recreation planner for the Nevada State Park system. Chronkhite was formerly with the New York State Department of Conservation.

20 YEARS AGO

The Nevada Air National Guard, first to man aircraft in the Persian War, was also the first to receive Iraqi prisoners in Saudi Arabia.

10 YEARS AGO

Seventy two years ago, Paul Webster Carrington of Sacramento married Miss Edme Peterson of Carson City. The couple were honored at the Carson Retirement Plaza.

• Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
