WNC softball loses final game of series

FALLON - Western Nevada College's softball team concluded its three-game series against Colorado Northwestern with a 16-8 loss Sunday afternoon.

The loss dropped WNC to 2-5 overall. The Wildcats will host a four-game series Friday at Edmonds Park starting at noon.

WNC had problems in the field, making five errors which led to seven unearned runs off Cassie Vondrak, who was tagged with the loss.

WNC rolled to an early 5-3 lead after four as Melanie Pfeiffer and Sarah Cuddahy delivered run-scoring hits in a three-run second inning for a 3-2 lead.

A solo homer by Ashley Hall in the third and a triple by Vondrak plus a passed ball accounted for the fourth ad fifth runs.

Colorado Northwestern took the lead for good in the fifth, scoring six runs. Megan Lish had a bases-loaded triple and Cam Brimhall added a solo homer to key the barrage by CN.

WNC closed to 9-8 with three in the sixth on a two-run double by Niki DiSera and a sacrifice fly by Megan Hein.

Colorado Northwestern struck for seven runs on just three hits in the top of the seventh to take a commanding lead.

Pfeiffer led WNC with two hits.
