The Gold Hill News objects to an appropriation for the Orphan's Home in Virginia City on the ground that is a Roman Catholic Institution. While there is considerable consistency in the objection, there is no reason why so deserving an institution should not be aided.

100 YEARS AGO

Eighteen bodies have been brought to the surface in Belmont catastrophe. Men were lowered into the shaft before they realized there was a fire in the storeroom at the 1,000 foot level. The majority of the dead men were Slavonians from Tonopah.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Nadine Fletcher of Lovelock died suddenly at Lovelock according to information received in Carson. The deceased is the wife of Donald Fletcher, brother of Robert Fletcher of Carson City.

50 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Milton Badt and Mrs. Charles Oliver were hostesses at the most recent luncheon card party held in honor of legislator's wives at the Badt home.

20 YEARS AGO

Welfare officials are baffled at the loss of the fourth of four shipments of food stamps mailed Feb. 13. They all have just vanished.

10 YEARS AGO

Two more possible cases of childhood leukemia have been discovered in Fallon. Assemblywoman Marcia de Braga asked for an emergency $1 million appropriation to speed up the search for a cause of the disease.
