130 YEARS AGO

Brown's Saloon Blaze: Yesterday morning at 2 o'clock Brown's saloon and bowling alley, opposite the Arlington House, was on fire. The alarm was sounded by the Mint bell. When fire companies reached the saloon flames were eating their way through the structure. Crowds rushed in and rolled out beer kegs and appropriated whatever liquor there was to be found.

Advertisement: "Potatoes one cents per pound, cabbage two, butter beans five cents, and seed corn five cents, delivered to any part of the city by Frank Fine."

70 YEARS AGO

Carson Senators: The Carson Senators won the right to be one of the western district's four representatives in the state tournament in Ely. In the game for Carson were Bernard, Murphy, Moose, Davenport, Curless, Wright, Felesina, Wasson, Anderson and Laxalt.

50 YEARS AGO

Gold recovery machine: Joseph Frazer, former automaker, has revealed plans for a dredge that can recover gold in profitable quantities from dry places in the desert using a dry-electro process.

20 YEARS AGO

Dayton County Park contains mercury and may present health problems to park users. The mercury was leftover residue from mining activities where mercury was used to separate gold and silver from other minerals.

10 YEARS AGO

Cowboys and denim: The Carson-Tahoe Auxiliary presents its 7th Annual Jubilee and Poetry event with Sourdough Slim, The Bar J. Wranglers and Pat Richardson.
