Prison sentence for serial DUI suspect

A Sparks man was sentenced to prison Monday for his third drunken driving arrest in less than two years.

Arthur Porter, 22, was given 16-48 months in prison in the September incident in which a game warden spotted Porter weaving through Washoe Valley and pulled him over near Nye Lane in Carson City.

At the time, Porter on was out on bail from a July incident in Douglas County in which he crashed into a vehicle on Highway 395 and led deputies on a chase through an alfalfa field before he was captured. During the July incident, Porter was on alternative sentencing in Washoe County for a December 2009 DUI.

Judge Todd Russell sentenced Porter to prison, making the sentence concurrent with the 12-month revocation of his probation out of Washoe County.

Also before Judge Russell on Monday:

• James Charles Valerie, 32, pleaded not guilty to grand larceny and obtaining money under false pretenses. A three-day trial date was tentatively set for April 12.

• Garrett Blackwell, 20, was sentenced to 12 months in the Carson City Jail suspended on a gross misdemeanor count of attempted conspiracy to commit destruction of property and attempted malicious destruction of property. Blackwell and a friend used a pellet gun to shoot out windows on an Arrowhead Drive business.

• Audrey Cherie Peebles, 22, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance. She'll be sentenced on May 2.

• Michael Leon Harris Jr., 29, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the uniform controlled substance act. He will be sentenced June 14.
