Man jailed after baby found with broken shoulder

A Carson City man remained in custody Monday for allegedly injuring his girlfriend's 3-month-old daughter in May.

Ivan Manzano, 26, was booked into the Carson City Jail at 5:48 p.m. Friday on a warrant charging him with felony child abuse.

According to the police report, Manzano and his girlfriend took the baby to the emergency room on May 21 after the child wasn't using her left arm and winced in pain.

An X-ray revealed the baby had a month-old fracture of her left shoulder and a dislocated elbow, commonly referred to as "nurse maid elbow," a condition more often seen in toddlers than infants, the report states.

Manzano allegedly denied injuring the baby. But questioning of the girl's older brothers, ages 4 and 9, and mother suggested the injury could have occurred when Manzano allegedly jerked the baby out of her mother's arms during a dispute.

The infant and her two older siblings were taken into state custody.

"(The brother) went on to say when Ivan pulled on the baby's arm, the baby cried loud," according to the report.

Manzano's bail is set at $30,000.
