Obituary: James Aubry Maloy

James Aubry Maloy, a devoted husband, a caring father, and a generous grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at the Veterans Hospital in Reno, where he lost his four year battle with lung cancer. Jim was 74 years old and was surrounded by his loving family.

Jim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Janet; his children Becky, Laurie, Jeffrey, and Robert; 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Delphia and Spencer, as well as his oldest daughter Teresa.

Jim was born in Bowlegs, Okla., on May 21, 1936, to Delphia Treadway. He moved to Northern California with his mother as a child where he remained for several years. As a young man, Jim enjoyed the sport of boxing and in 1953 he joined the Air Force, where he served as an airplane mechanic in Greenland. Jim married his first wife Wanda in 1956 in Tulsa, Okla., with whom he had four children. In 1972, he married his current wife Janet in South Lake Tahoe and they had a son in 1973. In 1975, Jim relocated his family to Nevada. He worked at Harvey's Casino for 21 years before retiring. Jim was a resident of Sparks.

Jim lived a simple life and enjoyed spending time with family. A few of Jim's favorite pastimes included fishing, working on his cars, spoiling his dogs, gardening, and hunting for treasures at garage sales with his son-in-Law Jimmy.

Jim will be laid to rest at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's honor at your local animal shelter, children's fishing derby club or The American Cancer Society.
