Nevada lawmakers vote with party on health care

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada's House members have voted along party lines in a Republican effort to repeal the sweeping health care law President Barack Obama signed last year.

Reps. Dean Heller and Joe Heck sided with the majority in the 245-189 vote Wednesday that marks the GOP's new power in the House after the November midterm elections.

Nevada's lone Democrat in the House, Rep. Shelley Berkley, voted against the measure.

The repeal effort is unlikely to pass the Senate, where Democrats kept their majority.

Republicans say the law is a government takeover of the health care system that would destroy jobs.

Democrats counter that the repeal would undo new protections against insurance industry abuses.
