130 YEARS AGO

Not the party: The Enterprise asserts that young Dick Snow was the boy hero killed at the battle of Pyramid Lake by Indians along side of Major Ormsby. This is a mistake. The boy who died defending his commander came to Nevada with McClure of Churchill county. His name is still unknown.

120 YEARS AGO

Battle Mountain: contains a number of haunted houses. Unearthly sounds are heard in the bewitching hour at night when ghosts revel, murmurs issue from the walls and pandemonium reigns.

70 YEARS AGO

Governor Carville: For the first time in the state's history, Nevadans were privileged to hear the annual message from the Governor broadcast from the Capitol.

50 YEARS AGO

Democratic era: John F. Kennedy began his presidency by summoning people, Communist and non-Communist to "a grand and global alliance" against "tyranny, poverty disease, and war." Kennedy at 43 is the youngest man ever elected president and the first Catholic.

20 YEARS AGO

Efforts to save CC history fail: The Virginia and Truckee engine house and shops come down. WES Construction crews met promptly and within minutes, dust clouds from the falling stones began billowing up.

10 YEARS AGO

The Brewery Arts Center wants to buy the historic

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church which has been home to the Catholic congregation since 1871. Brewery Arts Center executive director Joe McCarthy said the board has expressed an interest in buying both the Stewart-Nye home and the church.
