Police: Man's true identity revealed

An alleged illegal immigrant suspected of sexual assault fooled law enforcement into believing he was a juvenile for two weeks before his true identity was revealed Thursday, according to police.

Guillermo Alexis Lopez-Rivas, 20, a restaurant worker living in Carson City, was booked into the Carson City Jail for a second time at 10:30 a.m. Thursday on suspicion of felony sexual assault and felony lewdness with a minor.

He was initially arrested on June 30 after a two pre-teen girls alleged that Lopez-Rivas and Enrique Lopez-Cervantes, 24, took them from Mills Park, gave them alcohol at the river then sexually assaulted them. The men then allegedly took the girls, ages 11 and 12, to a barbecue, where the girls left and the 11-year-old called her mother.

When police contacted the men at Mills Park the following day, Lopez-Cervantes gave police the same name he remains booked under, but Lopez-Rivas allegedly gave the name Alexander Jose Lopez-Espinosa and stated he was 17.

Because officers were unable to confirm otherwise, Lopez-Rivas was taken from the adult jail and booked into juvenile detention.

He almost got away with it, said Deputy Sal Acosta, until Wednesday, when a woman came forward claiming that she was Lopez-Rivas' aunt and saying she had custody paperwork showing he was a minor in her care. But eventually the woman had a change of heart, revealed she was actually his mother and informed officers of his true name and age, said Acosta.

In the arrest report, Acosta states that he ran Lopez-Rivas' real name and discovered he had been deported to El Salvador in 2009.

When brought from the juvenile detention center and confronted about his name and age Thursday, Lopez-Rivas admitted his true identity, the report states.

Lopez-Rivas is being held on $100,000 bail and Lopez-Cervantes is being held on $250,000 bail. Each man is also being held on a federal immigration hold.
