Hoppers: Reports from Washoe Valley show that hoppers are becoming discouraged and are dying in large numbers taking wing toward the west and south. Places that were a time ago covered with hoppers are now perfectly hopperless.

120 YEARS AGO

All sorts: A German biologist says that the two sides of the face are never alike - in two out of five the eyes are out of line - one eye is stronger than the other in seven persons out of 10 - and the right ear is generally higher than the left.

70 YEARS AGO

Advertising on coins: Silver dollars which originated in Virginia City were ordered discontinued by the United States Treasury. The advertising system consisted of gluing an advertisement printed on a round piece of paper slightly smaller than the size of a silver dollar, to the side of a genuine silver dollar. Ordered stopped because of potential counterfeiters.

50 YEARS AGO

Photo caption: C. L. (Ike) Cochran, Carson City's "senior citizen," has been given the honor of being named by the executive board of he Nevada State Pharmaceutical Association and the Nevada Board of Pharmacy of the 1961 national convention. It marks the first time the group has been here and contrasts with the American Medical Association which called Nevada and Las Vegas, "sinful," and not the right place for conventions.

Fuji Park: Fuji Park users voted to remain in the Carson City Fairgrounds and Fuji Park, this following an ongoing dispute to allow the fairgrounds to be commercially developed or remain public property.
