Pedestrian killed in alleged DUI accident

STATELINE - A 60-year-old Valley Springs, Calif., woman was killed early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 50 West in Stateline, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

David Ray Stephenson, 35, of Discovery Bay, Calif., was eastbound in an unregistered Ford truck when he struck Joan Marie Hamrick as she crossed the highway from the Horizon to MontBleu about 1:17 a.m., said Trooper Dan Lopez.

Lopez said Stephenson allegedly left the scene of the accident, but a witness followed him down the street to Kahle Drive where officers found his unoccupied truck. According to Lopez, Stephenson eventually arrived on scene and was arrested for felony driving under the influence and failure to use due care.

Hamrick died from her injuries at Renown Regional Medical Center, said Lopez.

The Major Accident Investigation Team will be investigating the accident, and witnesses to the event, or anyone with additional information, should contact Sgt. Scott Famer at 775-689-4623 regarding case # NHP-1107300046.
