Academic Honors

Spencer McLaughlin, from Smith, graduated with honors, from Feather River College in Quincy, Calif., on May 27.

Cody Hines, of Gardnerville, has been named to the Whitworth University Laureate Society for spring semester 2011.

The student qualified for the academic honors society by maintaining a grade point average of at least 3.75 during the semester.

Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Several students from the Carson City area attending Western Nevada College's Fallon campus were recently welcomed to Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for two-year colleges.

They include:

Dayton: Marissa Fabel, John Reed, Rachel Reid, Barbra Reid Jones, Thresa Zylstra

Fernley: Julia Botelho, Jennifer Briscoe, Christal Hintze-Butkiewicz, Zachary Kinkade, Mark Premo

Silver Springs: Kristi Enos, Tammy McNiell, Kathleen Peterson

Lindsay M. Ford and Dakota J. Dutcher, of Carson City, have been named to the dean's list for fall 2010 at the University of Hartford in Connecticut.

The university is an independent, comprehensive institution of higher education, offering educational and career programs of study in its seven schools and colleges.

Angela Nelson, of Gardnerville, has been named to the dean's list of Academic Achievement for the Winter 2011 Term at Elmira College. She is majoring in biology-chemistry and is the daughter of Don and Diane Nelson.

Elmira College is in upstate New York. The dean's list recognizes students that have a grade point average of 3.6 or higher for the Winter 2011 academic term.

Kaitlyn Davis of Carson City, was named to the dean's List at Florida Institute of Technology for the spring semester, which ended in May. Davis is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Forensic Psychology.

To be included on the Dean's List, a student must complete 12 or more graded credits in a semester with a semester grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.4.
