130 YEARS AGO

A few days ago Mr. Sam Wright received a lot of mortuary statistics. Out of 23,000 incorporated cities, the lowest death rate was 70 to each 1,000. Mr. Wright got out his death records for Carson and found the capital city's death rate at 12 to each 1,000. This makes Carson the healthiest city in the world by a large margin.

100 YEARS AGO

Big record in Goldfield: The Goldfield Postal Savings Bank opened in a blaze of glory setting a record in the first two hours surpassing a record set in Tonopah for the entire first day. Two hours later Goldfield had a total of 43 accounts for a total of $1,386. At noon there were 54 accounts with deposits of $1,985.

70 YEARS AGO

The regular meeting of Carson Assembly of Rainbow for Girls was held with Evelyn Anderson, worthy associate advisor, presiding. The Carson Assembly will be represented by Billie Jean Stinson, Mary Margaret Cardinal, Sally Woodgate, Brownlie Wylei and Leslie Harvey.

50 YEARS AGO

The Sierra Club met recently in Reno and reviewed their trip to the ravines of Lagomarsino canyon. Nearly every weekend persons interested can find opportunities rock climbing, car camping or hiking.

20 YEARS AGO

A petition initiated in April to force the Curry Street Railroad to a citywide vote before tracks are laid has already generated enough signatures for validation, supporters claim.

10 YEARS AGO

Former U.S. Air Force pilot and instructor Stan Pochop never saw action when he was enlisted, but he was one of the skilled instructors that taught young aviators how to fly.
