130 YEARS AGO

Three miners suffocated: Yesterday afternoon three miners were suffocated by gas on the 400 level of the Andes mine in Virginia City. Their names were James Malone, Gerald Sanders and Patrick Hunter.

100 YEARS AGO

There will be no gambling in Reno. The members of the Royal Arch had a conference with Sheriff Farrel and decided the private game of evil must be wiped out. The new camp situated on the northwest side of Winnemucca mountain and formerly known as the Adamson-Turner camp, has been christened Rexall.

70 YEARS AGO

Col. Carl H. Elges Jr., commander of the 121st Separate Coast Artillery Anti-Aircraft Battalion, Nevada National Guard, has received formal orders from the Ninth Corps Area army headquarters for induction of the Nevada units into federal service June 23. A total of 29 officers, and 311 enlisted men will be inducted to federal service.

50 YEARS AGO

Newly elected mayor A. A. (Al) Autrand set forth aims and intentions of his administration to the city council last night. Autrand says the city needs a qualified city engineer with the executive ability to act as city manager.

20 YEARS AGO

The Kit Carson Rendezvous, Carson City's wildest Western event begins tonight in Reno when a wagon train winds its way from Reno to Carson in a 2-1/2 day trek.

10 YEARS AGO

Pay raises are given to nearly all elected officials. Supreme Court justices with more than 15 years service would make $185,000. The governor's pay goes from $117,000 to $129,000 a year.
