There is a call to open a road from Carson to Yosemite using Lucky Baldwin's money from Yanks at Tahoe. People from the east would be induced to take the Carson instead of the Truckee route, with this area reaping the utmost benefits.

100 YEARS AGO

County Commissioners met with Warden Baker and State Engineer Kearney to go over road work. It is proposed to use inmates to build a new route to Lake Tahoe at a low percent grade so that automobiles can make the trip. Reports are that within a very short time Kings Canyon route will be passable.

70 YEARS AGO

Paramount Pictures was in town recently taking pictures of businesses and residences for construction of identical buildings on the lot at Hollywood for the forthcoming picture, "The Remarkable Andrew." The story is to be built around a descendant of Andrew Jackson, who is influenced by the ghost of his famous ancestor.

50 YEARS AGO

Russia has built large missile bases in Siberia to launch attacks against Canada and the United States, it was learned today.

20 YEARS AGO

Nevada lawmakers served notice they are prepared to fight any effort to repeal a 119-year-old mining law they say is vital to the regional economy. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Dale Bumpers, D-Ark., calls the law "scandalous" because it allows miners to purchase federal land for as little as $2.50 an acre.
