'Songs of Nevada' offers musical stories for the whole family

Treat the family to an afternoon of song about all that makes Nevada unique. "CW Bayer and Mr. Spoons - Songs of Nevada" brings a collection of musical stories at 2 p.m. Saturday to the Brewery Arts Center. The performance is part of the BAC's "Cultures of Nevada" Matinee Series.

CW Bayer performs train songs, gambling songs, saloon songs, mining songs, cowboy songs and more songs to make you smile. Many stories are true, some even better than true.

Mr. Spoons will add his inimitable touch to the delight the children in the audience. He's known to invite young ones on stage and enlist their help with implements of musical destruction.

Bayer spent several years in the desert trying to grow food in the sand but then moved to Carson City to enjoy small town life. For 35 years, Bayer has rambled our state collecting historical songs from the far West and writing new ones. He prefers to share his talent in quiet, out of the way places such as Bodie, Genoa, and Gold Hill.

Recent hits include "The V&T Is Back In Town Again," "Someone Cut The Shoe Tree Down" and "The Day Genoa Burned in the Big Bed Bug Fire."

The performance is in the Maizie Harris Jesse Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors, and $5 for BAC members.
