Nevada's employment director resigning

(AP) - The director of Nevada's employment department is leaving July 1 after four years on the job.

Gov. Brian Sandoval received and accepted Larry Mosley's resignation on Thursday but his office did not comment on the reasons behind the move.

Mosley did not immediately return a request for comment Thursday evening.

Former Gov. Jim Gibbons appointed Mosley to director of the Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation in July 2007. The department handles unemployment insurance claims, discrimination complaints and job training.

The department website says Mosley oversees a $900 million budget and 800 staff members.

Deputy director Dennis Perea will serve as interim director until the governor names a permanent replacement.

Sandoval issued a statement thanking Mosley for his service during a time of record high unemployment in Nevada.
