Bike poker run coming to Carson City on July 17

Dan Cryer, self-proclaimed "imagineer" and inventor, is organizing a bicycle poker run in Carson City next month.

"I'm excited about it," he said. "I know it's going to work."

After a failed attempt to get the event off the ground in Washoe County a couple of years ago, he's moving forward with The Great Event this year.

"I'm going with the concept, If you build it, people will come," he said.

The 12-mile ride, which starts and ends in Mills Park, is mostly flat and accessible to all ages, he said.

It runs 8-11 a.m. July 17 with a $25 entry fee.

Along the way, there will be 10 challenges at local schools, parks and businesses throughout the city.

Challenges include a paper airplane toss, bowling, darts and others.

There are grand prizes for the highest score in each event, the best overall score and the best three poker hands.

"Each sports and fun challenge was designed so that someone as young as a fourth-grader can win," Cryer said.

The poker run is one of 17 fundraisers Cryer has planned in hopes of building an Olympic Skate Park featuring a concrete luge for downhill boarders.

The ticket includes a T-shirt and barbecue dinner. The shirts will be available the day of the event.

Pre-registration is available at 24hrfun.com through Friday, and will be open the day of the event as well. Vendor space is also available. The Gold Dust West is offering special room rates for participants. For more information, contact Cryer at dan@24hrfun.com or (775) 240-0446.
